Prescriptive Authority in Idaho
According to the Rules of the Idaho Board of Nursing, advanced practice registered nurses may apply for prescriptive authority for Schedule II-V controlled substances for a $50 application fee. Thirty hours of post-basic education in pharmacotherapeutics is required for application.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Idaho
APRNs in Idaho include certified nurse-midwife (CNM), certified nurse practitioner, certified registered nurse anesthetist (RNA), and clinical nurse specialist (CNS).
Education: Successful completion of a graduate or postgraduate approved advanced practice nursing program degree.

Renewal: APRN licenses are renewed every two years. APRNs must maintain their current registered nurse (RN) license or privilege to practice in Idaho, provide 30 contact hours of continued education, with 10 hours focused on pharmacology if the APRN has prescriptive authority. APRNs must also practice a minimum of 200 hours at the advanced level within the last two years before renewal.

Endorsement: Individuals licensed as a registered nurse in another state may apply for licensure through endorsement, subject to board approval. A $110 application fee and $42 fingerprinting fee are required. Registered nurses who hold an active license in another compact state need not apply for licensure in Idaho, unless they plan to change their permanent residency to Idaho.
Renewal: RNs are required to complete 30 continuing education hours per renewal cycle, show proof of previous license renewal, and pay a $90 renewal fee.
